UNOH and Fair Trade Initiatives
UNOH’s commitment is to serve the urban poor with our lives and this involves engaging with struggles at all levels. This includes helping start-up and support locally owned micro-enterprises to help generation much needed income. These initiatives are also great ways for those who are non-poor to stand in solidarity with the poor by buying the products or becoming a voluntary sales-rep/advocate.
Two of these initiates are:
Klong Toey hand-crafts
The team in Bangkok have been challenged to help meet the employment needs of the desperately poor in the Klong Toey Slum.
Klong Toey Handicrafts is an expression of that. These product are made by the men and women of the slum under fair trade principles and the profits go toward helping improve their quality of life, as well as providing dignity and teaching new skills.
